The location of the landslide is on the road P29372 at 12.5 km from the city of Bitola in the direction of the Pelister children camp. With the activation of the landslide, part of the road base slope together with part of the road surface construction have been affected, i.e. have slipped in a length of about 25 m. The landslide has occurred on a shallow slip surface and the soil material is pretty far away from its initial position because of the slope steepness. This landslide was sufficient to damage part of the road surface construction, so the already narrow road has been additionally narrowed with decreased safety for its users.
The technical solution provides landslide stabilization, rehabilitation of road surface and regulation of storm water. The length for rehabilitation is 57 m with the active slip surface covering a section of about 45 m. During the preparation of the design, several alternative solutions have been developed, of which the variant with RC piles with diameter 1000 mm was adopted.
This solution consists of two interventions. The first intervention is constructing a retaining structure which will have a dual purpose, i.e. to prevent further sliding and ensure stability of the soil material. The second intervention is regulation of surface and atmospheric waters.
The retaining structure consists of three sections. The first and second section consist of RC piles placed chequerwise in two rows with diameter of 0.8 m. The pile rafter has thickness of 0.8 m and width of 2.5 m. The retaining structure in section 3 is cantilevered retaining wall with same geometry as the pile rafter in the two sections.
A complete replacement of the carriageway in the landslide zone by placing geogrids under the base layer material, and the redirection of waters is planned to be carried out with two channels made of RC ditches.
